“Opinions founded on prejudice are always sustained with the greatest of violence.”
Francis Jeffrey
Close your eyes and imagine with me our shared belief in safe neighborhoods, the Second Amendment, pro activism, and respect for law enforcement. Continue to imagine the place you come to revere as a safe haven is that no more, law enforcement, judicial system has failed to recognize the severity of the threat. What is left for you to do but your God given right to protect you and your love ones: so you buy a gun, weeks and months pass without any altercations in your pristine surroundings. Then one day your life is in jeopardy and you pull the trigger. Now imagine that person is black….

20130719-165503.jpg
That person is Marissa Alexander of Jacksonville Florida, mother of three who at the time of this case gave birth to her third child, who was married to an abusive husband. That law enforcement has arrested on domestic violence charges and the courts freed after making these comments in his disposition “I got five baby mammas, and I [hit] every last one of them except for one.” (powers, daily beast) The estranged ex-husband Mr.Gray attacks the victim in the garage of her home, fearing for her life Marissa takes out her legally registered gun and fires a warning shot in the air. No one is hit or hurt yet she sits in a Florida prison sentenced to 20 years, lost custody of her children, and her family is not allowed to visit her children. Where is the fairness of Stand Your Ground was not this the reason the law was created to protect an individual in their home, their castle, their domain. Or is the spirit of the law only intended for a race other then African American or for that matter any skin color that makes this country the melting pot that it is. In wake of the grave injustice of the death of Trayvon Martin an the acquittal of George Zimmerman, this law needs to be revisited and stricken from the books. Which maybe near impossible in a very conservative republican state, an NRA sponsored bill, but not even trying does no justice for Mr. Martin, Ms. Alexander, or our nation as a whole.

Pregnant Boy Images Used to Deter Teen Pregnancy

June 11, 2013 in Life and Times, News

teen pregnancy

The city of Chicago’s Department of health has launched an ad campaign aimed at young teens in attempt to scare them out of having sex at a young age, which may lead to teen pregnancy.  The Images of pregnant teenage boys has been put up at many locations around the city.  CDPH Commissioner Dr. Bechara Choucair. “These ads work to increase education and awareness which will in turn help reduce the number of teenage pregnancies in Chicago.” Chicago’s teen birth rate decreased 33 percent, but it’s still one of the highest in the nation.

(http://chicagohealth77.org) Reports: From 2000 to 2008, there was a 25% decline in the birth rate for Chicago’s teens ages 15–19 (fig. 1). However, Chicago’s teen birth rate has consistently exceeded the statewide and national rates during the past eight years. In 2008, the Chicago rate was 57% higher than the U.S. rate. The declining trend masks huge racial and ethnic disparities. In 2007 (the most recent year Chicago birth statistics are available for by race/ethnicity), the live birth rate among Black and Hispanic/Latino teens ages 15–19 years are 6.9 and 6.1 times higher than among Whites. Over 95% of Chicago’s teen births in 2007 occurred among Black and Hispanic/Latina females.  These ads are gaining attention on social media sites, some posting the pictures as humorous other people are discussing this matter seriously using #unexpected.

An a employee at a German bank payed the price for sleeping on the job by being terminated.  This is a small price to pay considering he was actually terminated for accidentally transferring millions of dollars to a retiree’s bank account.  The worker was supposed to transfer about 62.40 to the account in question but accidentally fell a sleep on his keyboard, his head resting on the 2 button which consequently transferred 222 million euro ($293 million).  The case was brought to court by another employee who was supposed to supervise the transaction but let the mistake go unnoticed.  The supervisor was fired but believing he was wrongfully terminated, brought the case to court in order to be reinstated at the bank.  The judge ruled that the man should have his job back.  No word on what happened to the sleeping banker after being fired.

Davieanna Marlena Blake, 21, the daughter of legendary West Coast Hip-Hop MC, DJ Quik, real name David Marvin Blake, has been charged with 1st-degree murder in the beating death of her 2-year-old son, reports KPHO.com.

Blake and her boyfriend, Darnell Moses Alvarez, 24, who were arrested by Phoenix police, were found standing over the child’s body outside of their apartment.

An autopsy report showed that the child suffered “lacerated liver, severe internal bleeding and multiple bruising throughout his body, inconsistent with being struck with a belt only.”

Read more from KPHO.com:

Court documents show a witness told investigators he heard Alvarez disciplining the child for wetting himself or the bed, and that he could hear the child being spanked. The witness described the discipline as “excessive.”

The child was found with multiple bruises on his legs, arms, buttocks, back and face, the document shows.

Blake told police she and Alvarez argued earlier in the day and after the child woke they saw he had wet the bed overnight, according to the document. Alvarez allegedly struck the child with a leather belt, and Blake didn’t intervene for fear of upsetting Alvarez more, according to the documents.

She said she went to work and when she returned, her son was lethargic and had multiple bruises and stopped breathing while she and Alvarez argued over taking their son to the hospital, according to the documents.

Alvarez later told police he disciplined the child with a woven belt during the day after he soiled himself and the bathroom.

American Woman Gang-Raped In India

June 4, 2013 in News

india

An 30 yr old American woman was gang raped by 3 men in northern Indian resort town of Manali.  The woman was hitchhiking after visiting a friend when she was picked up by the men and brought to a secluded area and then assaulted.  Officials in India have begun taking a stronger stance on sex crimes by increasing jail time and even the death penalty for cases resulting in the victims death or brain damage.  Recently a Swiss tourist was gang-raped in March while taking a trip through rural India. Six men were arrested in the attack. In a separate incident the same month, a British woman visiting northern India leaped out of the third floor window of her hotel room fearing a sexual attack after the hotel’s owner tried to break into the room.  There has been a lot of concern regarding sex assaults in India after a woman dies after being gang raped on a moving bus in New Delhi.

CIA Hitman Gets Respect in Federal Prison

May 30, 2013 in News

kiriakou

A former CIA operative who has been sent to jail for disclosing classified information to the press writes a letter from prison explaining his experiences.

His letter goes as follows:

“I’ve also had some luck in this regard. My reputation preceded me, and a rumor got started that I was a CIA hit man. The Aryans whispered that I was a “Muslim hunter,” but the Muslims, on the strength of my Arabic language skills and a well-timed statement of support from Louis Farrakhan have lauded me as a champion of Muslim human rights. Meanwhile the Italians have taken a liking to me because I’m patriotic, as they are, and I have a visceral dislike of the FBI, which they do as well. I have good relations with the blacks because I’ve helped several of them write commutation appeals or letters to judges and I don’t charge anything for it. And the Hispanics respect me because my cellmates, who represent a myriad of Latin drug gangs, have told them to. So far, so good.”

John Kiriako was sent to prison for dislosing the name of a covert CIA operative to the press as well as bringing to light several illegal interrogation techniques used by the agency.

40 Year Old Mother Who Is Sleeping With Her Son Is Now Pregnant

May 16, 2013 in News

mother_marries_her_son_she_is_now_6months_pregnant

As Reported by Mixxupyad.com

A mother and her son have done the unthinkable – they have fallen in love with one another. And now they want to marry since the mom is six months pregnant and expecting her son’s first child.

Betty Mbereko (40), who was widowed 12 years ago, has been cohabiting with her first child, Farai Mbereko (23). She confirms that she is six months pregnant and that she has decided it is better to “marry” her son because she does not want to marry her late husband’s young brothers, whom she says are coveting her.

Betty stunned a village court last week when she said the affair with her son had begun three years earlier. She said after spending a lot of money sending Farai to school following the death of her husband, she felt she had a right to his money and no other woman was entitled to it.

“Look, I strove alone to send my son to school and no one helped me. Now you see that my son is working and you accuse me of doing something wrong. “Let me enjoy the products of my sweat,” she told the village court.

Farai said he was more than prepared to marry his mother and would pay off the ilobola balance his father had left unpaid to his grandparents. “I know my father died before he finished paying the bride price and I am prepared to pay it off,” he said.

“It is better to publicise what is happening because people should know that I am the one who made my mother pregnant. Otherwise they will accuse her of promiscuity.”

But local headman Nathan Muputirwa says: “We cannot allow this to happen in our village, mashura chaiwo aya, (This is a bad omen indeed).

In the past they would have to be killed but today we cannot do it because we are afraid of the police.” He warned them to break off their marriage or leave his village.

They chose the latter and have left the village for an unknown destination.

It’s on par with with that genius who puts *?!# You Coppers as a bumper stick and wonders why he getting pulled over more often. Now I’m not condoning what the IRS pulled off, it’s a Federal organization that should investigate any group looking for Tax exempt status and make sure they are on the up and up. The abuse of their power leaves us all to wonder what else they might have been getting away with all these decades? Now Tea Party supporters we feel for your bleeding hearts this issue goes to the long arm of government, just make sure your house is all squared up wouldn’t want the tables to turn on you.

New Immigration Bill: Help for all the Enrique Journey Travelers

May 8, 2013 in News

immigration

As the United States Congress focuses on immigration reform, millions are still being deported and being held in Immigration Detention Facilities while thousands still risk their lives each and every day to reach America. Now those who are here illegally or those that have already been deported and haven’t been convicted of a felony or 3 misdemeanors or those that have a spouse, children who are U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card holders may be allowed to stay and/or re-enter the U.S. With this amendment in the current bill before Congress, the inclusion of this measure will face many challenges not just in Congress but in public opinion. Is this special treatment for law breakers, a measure to regain lost tax revenue and can this current job climate handle such an influx. Perhaps this is a humanitarian measure to reunite families, provide added security to our boarders, a way to save countless lives, limbs, and prevent sexual assaults that occur on the journey to the promise land. Just as the Dream Act faced its critics and it’s watered down enactment, ObamaCare with it’s detractors and inevitable tinkering, comprehensive immigration reform will face similar if not worst scrutiny. Whatever the final outcome, passing a resolution on this matter not only makes sense now, but as America continues to spread its ideologies globally and flex its might. Lets continue to be the world leader in change, tolerance, and equality as we see ourselves and not surrender to inactivity. Or the contradictions the global world holds us to, on this issue of Immigration Equality lets hold it self evident that future generations will look to us as saviors of little Enrique’s not just as readers of the novel by Sonia Nazario.

Rappers Losing Endorsements Over Song Lyrics

May 6, 2013 in News

Wayne_Ross

Its evident that dropping a famous person from a promotions contract for negative publicity is good PR for any company, so much so that it may  do as much as having that person promote your product in the first place.  In recent news we’ve heard that Pepsi/Mountain Dew has dropped lil Wayne as an endorser for recent song lyrics and most publicized Reebok has dropped Rick Ross from there endorsement contract for UNEO verse (rape lyrics).

If a company is tapping an artist it is because that company wants to reach that artists fan base and the fan base is there because of the artists content.  But if an artist with an endorsement deal must now curtail they art content to continue to appease the company offering the sponsorship deal they may loose their fan base because the quality of their material has changed, then the artist loses the fan base and consequently the artist will lose the endorsement.  Honestly would anyone not purchase a Pepsi or Reebok sneakers because the spokesperson has offensive material in their music?

America Breeds Best Salesmen

“The American Dream” is like art, all the value is in the perceived value.  Profiting from that dream is also an art.  Often one who has not been born in to an opportunity rich environment is more appreciative or can better see the opportunities around them that others may take for granted.  Most will always find success if you remember that there is a market for everything somewhere and capitalizing on it is the dream actualized.  We are a nation of great sales people.  We can sell debt, prison space, celestial star names etc. It is the perceived value of what is around us that makes a salesman, if the seller believes it to be valuable he can make a consumer believe so as well.

Gas Attack in NY Metro Area

April 25, 2013 in News

al-shabaab-2

The headline may have gotten your head “gassed” and understandably so.  The slightest inkling that a possible terror attack may be imminent is not taken lightly nowadays.  The Brookhaven National Laboratory will in fact be releasing a gas agent into the air in the NY area.  Luckily the gas will be invisible, odorless and oh yeah, harmless. On three separate days this July, the gases will be released into subway stations and the streets in all five boroughs of New York City. The reason their doing this is to understand how gas agents if used as an attack will behave in the NYC atmosphere.  The test will be conducted this summer with sensors setup all around the city to determine things like the direction of the gas, dissipation, concentration and overall impact on the great city.  This information will be used to determine the best course of action or a battle plan should the city ever be hit with a terror attack that utilizes gas as its method of destruction.  City officials will be giving ample warning as not to alarm residents of the 5 boroughs.

What’s in a name?

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet.”
Romeo and Juliet (II, ii, 1-2)
Isn’t hate still hate without a flag or a name? Wouldn’t this as Brad Paisley calls it “tradition keeping of the good Ol south”, still not invoke memories of past crimes and injustices. So I say let them keep their flag, we haven’t forgotten the leaders, little Ruby Bridges, the nameless faces, Montgomery, Little Rock nor have they. As Paisley and LL Cool J mesh two worlds and outlooks for better or worst, let’s not be quick to judge or hate for we too will be guilty.

“Stop Snitchin” is the US Gov Official Standpoint

April 23, 2013 in News

79913-StopSnitchingTop

If we take a look at the lives of those who have blown the whistle on corporate or political conspiracy needless to say none have retired happily into the life of a moral hero and spent the rest of their lives on book tours and talk show circuits.  Frank Wills (Watergate Security Guard) won a NAACP award but got only (allegedly) a $2 a week raise for alerting the police to a break-in.  History is full of incidences in which those who blew the whistle on misconduct and illegal activities faced retaliation.  In 2007 during his first few days as a rookie New Jersey State Trooper, Justin Hopson witnessed an unlawful arrest and false report made by his training officer. When he refused to testify in support of the illegal arrest, his life veered into a dangerous journey of hazing and harassment. He uncovered evidence of a secret society within the State Police known as the Lords of Discipline, whose mission it was to keep fellow troopers in line.  Doing the right thing will always raise a moral dilemma but nowadays it will also raise concern for your safety.

“Home Grown” Terror

Screen Shot 2013-04-19 at 1.06.04 PM

As law enforcement begin bringing those responsible for the Boston Marathon bombing to justice, the evidence becomes clearer that before this incident the suspects were ordinary citizens like you and I just walking around.  First thing that comes to mind as I believe it will come to everyone’s is why would someone commit an act of terror or seek to destroy their homeland.  To cause chaos in your native country in some ways may be interpreted as self-destructive behavior. Whatever the explanation for their actions I dont expect it to make sense to anyone else but themselves, as people who hate are often unreasonable.  What is the reason, why do this, was there no other way???  As a US citizen I have often criticized my homeland as I’m sure everyone has yet being able to do so is proof that this place is a great place to be.  Rather than criticize we must become better citizens to improve our overall well being, and as citizens when angered with the system or the state of things, just do what the rest of us do…Blog

Enterprise_5_hrHere at culture variety were attempting to make our site “social” with a website experience without the “website experience”.  Often have crippling writers block…not for the lack of ideas but the total opposite. There is already a huffpost and a mediatakeout and about 100 million variations of the exact same thing, and I can speak for everyone here when I say that we would almost rather do nothing at all then to do the same damn thing.  So the question begs to be asked whats missing? Often the best things to create is something that people did not know they were missing…hence the block.
